General Information

Semnan is the capital city of Semnan Province in Iran. Its population was 153,680 people and 36,298 families as of the 2011 census. Semnan is located 216 kilometers east of Tehran in north central Iran. It is home to Semnani languages and is known as Seman locally.

The city offer various recreational activities, historical and religious sites, festivals, gardens and parks, colleges and universities, and Semnani culture. The city serves as the cultural and political capital of the Semnan Province. The city's main souvenirs are daffodil flowers, Shirmal pastry, Koluce cookies, gilim rugs, and shortbread.

Get in and around

Connected to motorways. You can use taxi, however the easiest way to travel is via a hired car and its not expencive.

There are plenty of scheduled bus services from some major cities.

Semnan is accessible by train from Tehran and some major cities.

When to visit?

Due to the warmer temperatures the best time for traveling is from May to September. Nearly unattractive for tourists are the cold months from November to March.  The climate here is desert. During the year, there is virtually no rainfall in Semnan. In Semnan, the average annual temperature is 17.2 °C. In a year, the average rainfall is 130 mm. The driest month is July, with 1 mm of rain. The greatest amount of precipitation occurs in January, with an average of 23 mm. July is the warmest month of the year. The temperature in July averages 30.2 °C. The lowest average temperatures in the year occur in January, when it is around 3.8 °C.
